Right, so there’s something we need to address: winter lips. Let’s be honest, when it comes to keeping lips hydrated in winter, the struggle is real. That’s why extra hydration for those of us who live in colder climates is so important. There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning and finding a colony of dry skin cells settling on your lips (eugh!) Dry lips are so 2014. It’s time we found a resolution.
Admittedly, it’s hard to know which products are worth using. I’ve had my fair share of trails and tribulations when it comes to finding the right lip care products, so I can truly say I’m aware of what’s really worth investing in. But before you invest in a new product, there are a few things you can do to stop cracks in their tracks.
Firstly, watch what you eat. I know, I know – you’re constantly being reminded to. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, watching what you eat has so many benefits, including keeping dry lips away. Yes – products help – to an extent, but if you really want to see a difference it’s all about the food you eat. Be kind to yourself and your body will reward you.
Exfoliate: If you want to find salvation from dry, chapped lips, then this is a must. Often, we forget to take care of our lips (well, I do) and neglect that it needs as much care and attention as the rest of our bodies.
Exfoliating doesn’t need to be drama. A simple mix of household ingredients and you’ll be on your way to softer, smoother lips. I’d recommend putting brown sugar (because the granules are big enough for you to feel it working, yet small enough to be gentle on your lips) into a bowl with olive oil. It should have the consistency of a paste, apply and ta da! Dry lips be gone!
And finally, since I’m giving you the full service, here’s a list of products I’d like to recommend.
If you haven’t got time to make lotions and potions. This this scrub is fab to keep the crusties away. It’s small and portable so you can have fresh lips anywhere.
Any lipstick or lip gloss that I wear that must have this product underneath otherwise it’s a disaster waiting to happen. This product keeps my lips hydrated for hours on end.
To keep with the theme of winter, I love to stay on trend by wearing a berry lip. My favourite one is wearing this one from Ellis Faas. The formular also helps to keep your lips smooth, with the added colour.
