Yes, I’ve had surgery. In fact, I’m not opposed to it, at all. Ok, well what I had was a non-invasive treatment, which means they didn’t cut me open. Like most people I have cellulite, in the mildest form. (Thank God) and before I headed to Thailand, I wanted to reduce the appearance of cellulite as much as possible since I was going to be prancing around in bikinis and shorts for 3 weeks. I was interested in the Smooth Shapes treatment, and thought it was the perfect opportunity to get one done.
I’m sure you know what cellulite is, but I thought I’d explain a little further.
Cellulite is a dimpling of the skin and appears in areas with underlying fat deposits, giving a lumpy, uneven texture.
Cellulite often appears around the buttocks and thighs, and develops after puberty, and can be caused by many different factors such as:
Hormonal factors – hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development. Many believe estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.
Genetics – certain genes are required for cellulite development. Genes may predispose an individual to particular characteristics associated with cellulite, such as gender, race, slow metabolism, distribution of fat just underneath the skin, and circulatory insufficiency.
Diet – people who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt and too little fiber are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
Lifestyle factors – cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.
Clothing – underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the formation of cellulite.
Now I know exercise helps to reduce cellulite, but with a week before my trip, I needed something quick and effective, so I headed down to Destination Skin in Knightsbridge and I was introduced to my therapist Tia, who was so lovely, and extremely knowledgeable. I was given a pair of goggles to wear to protect my eyes, and away Tia went with the Smooth Shapes machine. he treatment usually takes about 30 mins. As my cellulite was in it’s mildest form I was able to see a difference after one treatment, however 8 treatments twice a week for 4 weeks is recommended. The treatment ranges from £50 – £195 depending on the area.
Usually 8 treatments would cost you £1,295 however at the moment they have 50% off treatments, so you only £647.50.
Can you see why I was sold on the treatments, I mean look at the before and after pictures.
