A few weeks ago, I went on a date to a lovely Greek restaurant in East Finchley. As my date spent a large part of his childhood life in Greece, he built up a little roster of his favorite Greek restaurants in and around London. Genzo Restaurant was one of them.
We started with fried calamari and haloumi cheese. As a fan of haloumi cheese, this was exqustitly tasty.
We moved onto the main which was the mixed grill which consisted of chicken souvlaki, lamb souvlaki, lamb cutlet and lamb kiofte, served with rice and side salad. We ordered a small portion of chips to go with. I’m not sure what we were thinking because even though we shared the mixed grill, we were too stuffed that the waiter questioned if want to take the food home because so much was left on the plate.
The salad alone could have been a main. The portion size felt like it was an extra extra large. I was full of the salad alone.
For drinks we kept it quite simple. I went for a glass of Rose, and my date kept it simple a with a cup of latte after the meal instead of opting for a desert.
Somewhere between being full and seeing apple crumble and custard on the menu, something happened. Suddenly my full stomach slowly made room for dessert. How could I say no! My favorite dessert in the world. The apples were cooked nicely and the custards was thick and creamy.
