BEAUTY TIP: BEAUTY MYTHS DEMYSTIFIED

BEAUTY TIP: BEAUTY MYTHS DEMYSTIFIED

Myth #1: You can shrink your pores.

FALSE. The size of your pores are permanent and cannot be changed however you can shrink them temporarily with certain beauty products.

Myth #2: Your eyelashes will fall out if you don’t remove mascara.

TRUE. Mascara can block your eyelash glands, which can lead to breakage. Always use a cotton bud and eye makeup remover and gently rub from roots to tip

Myth #3: Your inner wrist is the best place to test makeup.

FALSE. Are you crazy, that the part of the body this is hardly affected by the weather eg sun and wind. It’s the lightest skin on your body. Foundation should ALWAYS be tested on your jaw line.

Myth #4: Split ends can be reversed.

FALSE. Once a split end happens, the only way to get rid of it is by getting a haircut. The right products (like pomades and serums) can however make split ends less noticeable, but doesn’t solve the problem.

Myth #5: Your cell phone can make you breakout.

TRUE. Your cell phone is can cause germs that can develop into pimples especially if you have oily skin. To prevent this always clean your phone – I use anti-bacterial wipes.

Myth #6: The more expensive a product is, the better it will work.

FALSE. One needs to read the ingredients label on any product. Less expensive products can SOMETIMES have the same ingredients as brand name competitors. Sorry to put it like this but sometimes you’re actually paying for the branding, and not the product.

Myth #7: Women of Colour don’t need to use any sunscreen.

FALSE. We are less likely to burn than our white friends, however the exposure of UV rays can still cause harm.  Whether black, asian, hispanic or white, everyone should always wear a SPF sunscreen. SPF can also be found in foundations, so whether it’s your moisturizer or foundation you will be protected from those harmful rays.

Myth #8: Cucumbers will help de-puff your eyes. Get this anything cold (from cucumbers to towels) will de-puff your eyes. Coldness limits blood vessels this reduces swelling and puffing.

Myth #9: Pumping the mascara wand will help apply mascara better.

FALSE. Pumping the mascara wand in its tube of mascara creates air bubbles; the air then causes the mascara to dry up, lessens its durability power and encourages the growth of nasty germs. Instead, rather than pumping your mascara slowly twist the brush as you pull out to this will obtain more of the product.

Myth #10: Never pluck a grey hair, because 10 more will grow in its place.

FALSE. How can this possibly make any sense, only ONE hair can grow out of ONE root. If you pluck a hair, ONE hair will grow back in its place –  and it may be slightly stubborn than the previous hair.
